Stone shower walls and benches in Statesboro, GA

Large stone panels give a shower a clean, solid look with far fewer grout lines to scrub. Custom Elite Counters cuts and installs stone shower walls, benches, curbs and shelves for bathrooms across Southeast Georgia.

If the vanity top is being replaced as well, the shower can be cut from the same material so the whole room matches.

Why choose slabs over tile

  • Fewer joints. A wall made of a few large panels has a handful of seams where tile has hundreds of grout lines.
  • Easier cleaning. Less grout means fewer places for soap scum and mildew to settle.
  • One continuous pattern. Veining can run across a whole wall without being chopped into squares.
  • Matching pieces. The bench, curb, niche shelves and window sill can all come from the same stone.

Materials for a wet room

Marble is the look most people picture, and it works in a shower if you're willing to look after it. Hair color, some shampoos and acidic cleaners can mark it. Quartz with a marble-style vein gives a similar look with less upkeep.

Before the stone goes up

Stone is the finished surface, not the waterproofing. The walls behind it need to be properly built and waterproofed first, and the plumbing valves set at their final depth. Once that is done, the walls are measured and each panel is cut to fit.

Benches and curbs are worth a little planning. A bench top should tilt slightly toward the drain so water runs off, and a one-piece curb cap leaves no grout joint on the spot that gets the wettest.

Common questions

Is stone better than tile for shower walls?

Stone panels have far fewer seams, which makes them easier to keep clean. Tile offers more patterns and sizes. It comes down to the look you want and how much scrubbing you'd like to avoid.

Can quartz be used for shower walls?

Yes. Quartz is non-porous and never needs sealing, which makes it a popular choice for shower walls and benches.

Does a marble shower need to be sealed?

Yes. Marble is porous and should be sealed regularly, and cleaned with a pH-neutral cleaner. Acidic bathroom cleaners can dull it.

Can you make a shower bench or a niche shelf from stone?

Yes. Benches, curbs, niche shelves and thresholds can be cut from the same stone as the walls or the vanity. See bathroom vanity tops.
